Hi, I'm trying to connect my Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones to a PC running Windows 7 using the Asus BT400 dongle. The drivers from the CD are installed, and BT is available, but when adding a new device it doesn't detect the headphones at all—though they're in pairing mode. It does recognize my smartphone and some unknown devices. I've rebooted, reinstalled the drivers, but the issue persists. Anyone have ideas? I've also searched online and found similar discussions, though most reported connection or playback problems without pairing difficulties.

It was actually my error, though Sony seems a bit behind. The issue was that I wasn’t switching my headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode. To activate pairing, I had to turn them on, then press and hold the power switch for roughly 7 seconds. However, after about 4 seconds, the device would signal "power off" and shut down. The solution was to keep pressing the power switch even after it stopped responding, which eventually brought the headphones back online and allowed pairing. This was quite unexpected.
But things got worse—I managed to connect my headphones without entering BT pairing mode with both my smartphone and laptop. It’s strange how that worked!
It's unclear whether BT's version is mentioned on Sony's site. Some online discussions indicate compatibility, such as the 4.2 version being referenced.
If you visit this site, go to Specifications, scroll down and click the small box that says See all specifications. An overlay appears with the Bluetooth version labeled 4.2. However, figuring out the differences between Bluetooth versions can be confusing without a compatible adapter.
