Currently I have an RX 6600 GPU, a 550w PSU and an i7-6700K. I'm thinking about switching to an RX 6700 XT but noticed it requires more power. Is there a GPU similar to the RX 6700 that works with 550 watts, or can I run the RX 6700 XT using my existing PSU?

Which model or manufacturer card corresponds to that (RX 6700 XT)?
Various makers specify different basic power supply needs.
For the RX 6700 XT, a typical recommended minimum PSU power is 650W.
What PSU model are you employing?
Using an inadequate or low-quality PSU might damage your computer and cause serious harm.

It's basically a 500W PSU (about 504W on the 12V rail). You'll need a different one for the RX 6700 XT. It shouldn't fail, though—it has several built-in safeguards. However, you might face unexpected shutdowns when loading graphics to full capacity or playing games.

Thanks for the details, but do you really have to modify the PSU if you're planning to upgrade the CPU? For instance, with an i7 9700K.

The i7 9700k isn't compatible with your motherboard. You might need to replace the board and possibly reinstall Windows. Upgrading the CPU should work without needing a PSU upgrade.
