This Ryzen 9 9950X3D offers great value for Unity development.
I've been researching a new PC for a few weeks now, focusing mainly on Unity game development and gaming. I'm considering the 9950X3D because it handles both well. However, I'm unsure if it will fully meet my needs with a mostly Unity workload. Some people say it's great, while others think it won't make much difference, suggesting the 9800X3D might be a better choice. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
Are you constructing your work on that device? If yes, adding more cores can really help. When I develop Unity games, it makes full use of all 12 cores on my 5900X, and it can expand to 16 as well. Switching from a 9800X3D to a 9950X3D might save you a lot of time if you build often on that system. If your builds run on another machine, the upgrade probably won’t change much. In most cases, I don’t see Unity actually needing that many cores. Of course, my projects haven’t been that large. I think with huge projects you might notice a difference, but I haven’t experienced it personally. My guess is that the 9800X3D and 9950X3D would perform similarly inside Unity.
In that scenario, if regular builds occur or slowdowns bother you, the 9950X3D could be a good investment. But if you're not concerned about build times, you might save the cost.
