No, you don't need identical brands on your RAM. Variety is fine; mint isn't essential for performance.

You can save even more by understanding the process. Locating a genuine Samsung DDR3 with 2Gb modules is affordable, often around $5 for a 4GB module if you search well. Using four of those modules provides roughly 16GB of memory, and you can likely push them to around 2666 CL10 with minimal effort for about $20 total, depending on your motherboard and CPU. However, if you're using a B85 board, it probably won't handle significant overclocking beyond 1600 CL19, making higher capacity less useful unless you intend to use it heavily.
