Lately I've experienced issues such as unexpected PC shutdowns after installing Afterburner. I suspect my GPU might be overclocked, and I'm unsure if it's safe. Could you suggest the optimal settings for this GPU?

Increase your power setting to 100, reduce the boost clock and memory clock by at least 1200mhz, then adjust upward to check stability.

This setting is currently at the default level. A value of +0% equals the standard. Raising it to +100% would double the power capacity of the card. That feature isn't available in MSI Afterburner. The typical clock speed for the RX 470 is 1200MHz / 1650MHz. You can't reduce it below 1200MHz because that would prevent proper operation. The device appears to be running at a low load (showing 654MHz on core clock) but reporting a temperature of 65°C. Even in idle conditions, it should be around 30-40°C based on room conditions. The fan is set to 15%, which likely means it won't spin at all or barely at all. If it stays at 15% under load—like when playing games—it will overheat and may shut down or crash. You need to boost the fan speed to dissipate heat. You can either move the slider higher or configure a custom curve in MSI settings. To define a custom curve, click the settings button and select the Fan tab. There you can design a graph that raises fan speed as temperature rises. You don't need to match my exact settings since my graphics card differs. This gives you a reference on how the curve should behave with increasing temps. Edited May 24, 2023 by Spotty

Your graphics software is quite old. I suggest installing the newest drivers from AMD's site. Here’s the connection for the RX 470 drivers: https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/...eon-rx-470

Your profile displays the boost clock as a positive number instead of just the value. For your card, it should reflect +100 since that's the total including the boost clock. It seems the difference comes from the fact that AMD and NVIDIA cards have separate power limits in Afterburner.

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. I’ll try to boost the GPU fan to help cool things down, just as you suggested. Also, when I play low-end games like Roblox, my temperatures often hit 84°C with a fan speed of 53—does that look typical?

This doesn't align with my perspective.

Increase the fan speed further. It might be better to run it near 100% at 80°C. The cooler could also be collecting dust, which may hinder its cooling performance. You could attempt removing the card and giving it a quick cleaning. In the two screenshots you shared, the graphics card is using more power in Roblox compared to CSGO. The overlay displays the power usage for each game. 61.7W in Roblox versus 19.6W in CSGO. Even though Roblox appears simple, it demands more from the graphics card. Higher power consumption leads to increased heat generation. Since your target temperature is set to 73°C, the card should be reducing its speed before reaching 83°C. Uncertain about what’s causing this or if the driver is involved, or if the cooler can’t maintain the target, it seems the card is operating at 1260MHz without lowering its speed to meet the setting. Ensure you click the checkmark to save the MSI afterburner settings so they apply to the card. Edited May 24, 2023 by Spotty

Also make sure you have enough airflow in and through the case too, if you don't that will make the card run hotter. Remember it relies on air that's in the case and it's already being warmed by the other components around the card, if this air is already warm you can't expect it to provide good cooling so check that to be sure. If you're not sure, post a few pics of the case, inside and out so we can take a peek and make some suggestions. From your screenies temps seem OK but we obviously can't see it real time under load while in use.

I don't know what I did, but the temperatures are about 35°C. Hope it's okay and safe.
