This processor won’t handle lower voltage settings.
Hi, After enjoying my laptop with an i5-8250U and Throttlestop turned on, I finally assembled my first desktop PC. I’m using an Intel i5-12400F with an MSI H610M-E motherboard. The case features a mesh layout with four fans—perfect for air cooling. The CPU stays cool under light use, but it can heat up to 98°C during heavy tasks like Cinebench or 4K video editing. I’ve applied a decent amount of MX-4 thermal paste, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I attempted to lower the voltage, but it didn’t work. Intel XTU changes the voltage setting, Throttlestop doesn’t support it, and I can’t undervolt it in BIOS either (though I’m not sure about that). Could you help? Please share any screenshots from the BIOS, TS, or XTU if they’ll be useful. Thanks.
I don’t believe Intel allows full voltage control on the H610 board, which means you might be in a tough spot. You could consider a more affordable aftermarket cooling solution.
What about your temperature under different tasks? The Intel stock cooler works just fine for quick spikes like gaming, but it struggles with long-term usage.
