I received a new PC today, consisting of a Ryzen 5700x paired with a 6800, a budget Gigabyte B550m motherboard, and an FSP Hydro 700 watt 80plus bronze PSU. The system was functioning properly initially. After removing the GPU and installing my old M.2 SSDs, everything booted up correctly. While setting up Windows, I forgot which SSD to format because one contained important files. The motherboard's release clip is hard to reach, so I used small long-nosed pliers to adjust it. During this process, I accidentally slipped and hit the board with the pliers, causing some damage. After reassembly, the PC won't power on at all—no lights, no fans, though the USB keyboard still works. I attempted to reset CMOS, reinstall the GPU multiple times, but nothing seems to be working. I’m confused about what might have gone wrong; the power switch is on, and there’s no visible damage. What could have caused this issue?
It seems you might have damaged your motherboard. Try removing the power cord first, then press the power button several times to dry out the capacitors. Let it rest for some time without plugging it back in, and try again. If it still doesn’t work, you may need to let it dry longer or use a drainer cap. Jay thought he damaged the board after a short, but everything worked after about a week.
