Well, it seems my foolish decision has come back to haunt me. I just purchased an i5-2400 processor that I've been eyeing for a long time because of its low cost. The issue is my Intel DH61HO motherboard only supports chips with a TDP of 65 watts or less. The i5-2400 has a much higher TDP of 95 watts. Even though I haven’t asked, I think the seller might be open to swapping it for an i3-2100 instead. Should I wait and save up for a motherboard that costs at least RM120—something I have on hand but would rather avoid spending—or should I go with the i3-2100 now? I plan to use it with a 750Ti and aim for games like CS:GO, Insurgency, World of Tanks, and Hearts of Iron 4, targeting at least 60 FPS on medium settings, 1024x768 resolution.

I5 performs better in most gaming situations compared to i3. However, it's unclear if upgrading for just the CPU makes sense. You might consider returning the old unit and look for a more compatible processor instead. For a complete overview of supported CPUs, check the website provided.

Intel’s compatibility guide offers a useful reference. For the 750 Ti with an i3 2100, benchmarks show around 51-94 FPS in CS:GO at 1080p medium. Based on that, a 1024x768 resolution should likely work for 60 FPS.

It should work well even with solid cooling. My X58 sabertooth ran at an X5680 OC’d to 4GHz for more than a year without any issues.

The issue arises because the CPU isn't compatible with the system's power limits. The display simply indicates it can't run a CPU exceeding 65W.

Hey there. The seller is open to trading the 2400 for the 2100 but won’t give back the $20. I’m considering selling my i5-2400 online at a price just below market value so I can still earn a small profit instead of losing that amount. I’ve been looking on Facebook Marketplace and found several good deals, including i3-3220s, i3-2120s, and i3-2100s. I’m wondering if the 3220 really delivers more performance than the 2120 compared to the 2100, making it worth spending a bit more for?
