Not supported on Ivy Bridge. The 2011 Dell motherboard GDG8Y was available in these PC configurations: Vostro 260, Vostro 260G, Vostro 260S, Inspiron 620, and Inspiron 620S.

Dell hasn't confirmed compatibility with the Ivy Bridge chipset on that board. It could be worth testing, though I'm skeptical about success. The experience feels unusual compared to other second-gen Intel boards Dell has released, which do support third-gen CPUs.

I haven't received the i5 yet, but I'm hoping to check after the BIOS update. Earlier this month, someone sold me a machine with similar specs and mentioned they were using an i3 2nd gen on the motherboard before upgrading to an i5-3470.
