I just damaged a circuit on the Dark Hero due to thermal paste spill. I'm searching for a new motherboard to test Ryzen 5900X CPUs for optimal overclocking and keep the top model. Would you consider this a suitable choice? The link you shared is for the ProArt B550 Creator. Is it acceptable to use it for gaming despite being labeled as Creator Art rather than the ROG lineup? It seems more of a design choice. Does it still offer strong VRM and solid overclocking capabilities in the BIOS? Are there any notable differences between Asus Creator ProArt boards and ROG boards? I don’t need or care about WiFi or Bluetooth, and I’m fine with that. I’m aware of the B550 model except for the top M.2 slot, which is Gen 3—perfect for me. It lacks a VRM and chipset fan, so I’d like to verify that detail.

Which thermal paste is it? It's typically non-conductive. Are you using LM?

It's not liquid metal, but excess spilled onto and between the tiny ICs near the CPU socket made cleaning difficult. I used rubbing alcohol, but it stuck tightly and was hard to remove. I don't want to risk damaging anything by trying to fix it, so I'm considering replacing the motherboard. While paste is insulating, it can still interfere with ICs if too much gets trapped. Even a small amount could ruin the connection between components and cause the board to fail due to poor thermal conductivity.

The worst outcome might be a slight temperature increase on those ICs. But that’s a big deal if it happens. Who knows, it could even help them run cooler. You’re in the clear—purchasing a new motherboard just for this reason is a waste.
