The B450-f doesn’t support WiFi, so I had to purchase a Wi-Fi adapter separately. It worked with my PC for about two weeks. After buying the machine, tower, cooler, and a 1600 CPU, I upgraded to a 1080 GeForce graphics card. However, my system only had a 120GB SSD and wanted to upgrade to an M.2 4th generation drive. I bought two Allie-style cards because I’m budget-conscious. When installing, I noticed no M.2 slots, so I added extra thermal tape and thought the fans were sufficient. I didn’t buy any additional heaters since I believed the existing ones would handle it. After reassembly, the computer booted up without showing any display in BIOS or launching properly—just a VGA light that stayed green then white. I attempted cleaning the card, swapped HDMI and DP cables, used a DVIHDMI cable, tested various monitors, and even tried a DVI to DEP setup. Still, it doesn’t recognize the VGA light. I’ve cleaned the card, changed drivers, reset CMOS, updated BIOS, and checked USB ports, but nothing works. I’m still stuck. I recently bought a new CMOS battery and reformatted the system on another machine. Now I have a flash drive, downloaded Windows Media Creation Tool, and tried installing Windows Key. It doesn’t detect the VGA light at all—it just powers up to the rim and then goes white. I’ve also tried different cables and connections. This computer has sentimental value, so I’m really frustrated. Could you help me figure this out? I’m still learning as I go. P.S. If it’s still showing the VGA light after replacement, did I damage the motherboard?
to better understand the issue you should check in your motherboard manual what the vga light means, did you connect correctly your monitor to your GPU? did you select the correct input for your monitor? can you please list all the tests you've done one by one in multiple lines? sounds like an issue similiar to this one i found on reddit:
I disassembled the computer all the way down to the motherboard, removing the CPU completely. I reassembled everything from the motherboard back up, including the CPU, RAM, and graphics card. When I removed the CPU, it wouldn’t power on at all—no lights would illuminate. But once the CPU was back in place, it would attempt to boot without it, but the RAM would light up while the CPU stayed off. The VGA light would activate as well. I placed the graphics card without RAM, and it would switch to the RAM light. Then I reinserted the RAM with the card, and it returned to the VGA light. I tried everything possible—updated the BIOS, checked for a labeled update USB or C port, even tested the front panel USBs.
