Hello, I’m considering switching to AM5 and purchased the MSI Pro A620M-E. It was reasonably priced locally and matched my current setup in IO and features. However, I keep seeing videos about its lower performance compared to newer CPUs like Ryzen 7 due to insufficient VRM cooling. There are even concerns about potential damage to other parts if it fails. Should I buy another board for now, or is this one sufficient? Could I upgrade it later by adding heatsinks? Also, should I power it up immediately after assembling all components? Please note I got the 7800X3D from a friend at a good price, so I didn’t want to compromise on quality. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Can you explain this? It’s a low-quality motherboard. I wouldn’t match it with a 7800X3D. It looks like you’re spending a lot on the CPU—better save some for a better board.

I wouldn't rely on it to operate smoothly without limiting the CPU, as demonstrated in the example.

I acquired the 7800x3d for roughly $120, but my friend didn’t want it because he won a Ryzen 9 and didn’t need the older one. The deal was great, so I bought it from him. In Chile, motherboard prices aren’t too high, so I chose something affordable for my student budget and planned to upgrade later. Right now I’m checking if it’s safe to keep it or if modifying it would be sufficient.

I'm planning to use it until I have the funds for an improved version since it had a significant effect on the outcomes. Thanks!

I wouldn't go that route. Wouldn't it be better to pay $99 and receive this instead? It actually handles the top-end CPUs quite well.

The board mentioned doesn’t align with the review. B650M-H/M.2+ versus B650M-HDV/M.2 are distinct right now, and the latter costs $120 in the U.S.

the hdv model offers superior VRM performance compared to others, with m-h VRM matching the a620m-hdv/m.2 plus in quality and better I/O options. The inclusion of two USB 3 ports and an integrated I/O shield makes it a strong contender for AM5 standards. While some VRMs are subpar, the overall setup is solid enough for demanding tasks. This board stands out over the b650m-h/pg lightning and the b650m-a due to its more consistent VRM design and similar appearance, though cooling and tuning might still be needed. If returned, it could perform well on the 7800x3d, but upgrading to a b650m-hdv would likely provide better longevity and stability.

I purchased the B650 before realizing its issues, so I plan to buy a better model next month once I earn more. My reasoning is that I’m okay using it at reduced power until I can afford an upgraded unit, but if performance problems could harm my components, I’d stick with my current setup. Note: On Amazon it’s listed at 140 dollars plus shipping and import fees, while in Chile it’s around 150 with shipping, which shows what you mean by “overpriced.”
