This model struggles to boot when more than a single RAM stick is connected.
Hey there, I've checked almost every online resource and the Asus site isn't very helpful for FAQs or support. My problem is that I'm trying to replace the motherboard from a MSI B450 Tomahawk with an Asus B450-F gaming board. She won't boot up or pass POST even when using more than one RAM stick in the DIMM slots. But she will work fine with just one stick in the A2 slot. I've followed all the manual suggestions—single, double, or four sticks—but only the single stick in slot A2 seems to get it running. I've already installed Windows 10, updated drivers, and everything from the CD that came with the old board. Fortunately, I haven't started the return process for my previous one yet... I have until the 7th to begin. Honestly, I'm not sure if this new board will be worth it. The story behind why I'm making the change might be long, so I'll post about it later if anyone has ideas. My system is a Ryzen 7 2700X, Asus B450-F gaming, G.Skill TridentZ with 32GB (4x8GB), and an EVGA SuperNova 650G3. I'm not sure what else needs to be known. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to waste another $200 on RAM and only have one stick installed. Or worse, have to go through the whole return process again.
Did the RAM connect properly with the previous board? Consider updating the BIOS on the current board and retry.
Yes, I overlooked that point. All the sticks functioned correctly on my previous board. I attempted to flash the BIOS, updated it myself, but another source advised cleaning the CMOS and resetting the BIOS to its original settings—still no results. It doesn’t boot with more than a single stick.
Hey, maybe I should revisit the MSI to troubleshoot the audio problem I had with that unit. I’ll double-check that the sticks function correctly there. Since I haven’t fully tested the Asus yet, it’s hard to decide whether to return or stick with MSI. I could try swapping one stick at a time online, but that doesn’t seem efficient. Definitely within the return window. I bought it from Amazon last Friday—just got it this Friday afternoon. I finally assembled it over the weekend because it was my break. It’s actually a great way to use my time! -.-
I understand it's frustrating when components arrive late. This can happen to anyone from time to time. I hope you can get the MSI board to meet your requirements. I noticed you used the included disk with your drives—try avoiding that and obtain drivers directly from MSI’s website for your other setup. Old drivers might be causing audio problems.
It does. N hopefully I can! We'll see. I saw a Couple threads on here of people with SIMILAR issues, not all the exact same. But I saw one suggestion I hadn't seen before that I might try on the MSI. If that doesn't fix it, idk what I'll do lol. N really? Avoid installing drivers from the disks? I know the MSI disk comes with a handful of MSI products/apps that were handy such as a driver updater etc etc But I'll give that a shot when I try the MSI again.
