I own an Asus Z8NA-D6 equipped with dual Xeon X5675 processors, a 750w Corsair PSU, and I was replacing a hard drive. I powered down the machine, turned off the PSU, and even removed the power cable while spinning the case. After restarting, the board showed no green light and refused to boot. When I followed Corsair’s instructions and shorted out the PSU with a paperclip, it started working again. Over time, I’ve had 15 hard drives connected to the PSU. After disconnecting them, one of the plugs on the PSU failed completely. It now powers on only when that specific connector is used. It might have been a partial power drain after switching off and unplugging the HDD.
