Three weeks prior to Christmas I purchased the ASUS B650E-E Gaming motherboard with an AMD Ryzen 7800X3D CPU. It was meant to be my final upgrade for a while, possibly years ahead. However, I struggled with that board for a week before ultimately returning it. For replacement, I bought another identical ASUS B650E-E. The issue remained the same—it would trigger error code 15 for a few minutes, then shift to C5. It stayed on C5 until the system froze or time passed. I attempted various fixes: BIOS updates, RAM swaps, different slot configurations, BIOS flashback, and more. Eventually, I gave up on the first board and ordered the second one, hoping it would resolve the same problems. Now both boards are stored in a UPS overnight, awaiting my refund. This brings me to the challenge of finding a suitable replacement. As someone who’s used ASUS for a long time, I’m not sure about other brands. Would you help me figure out what to replace this board with? I won’t even think about ASUS. I need something that supports my Ryzen 7800X3D CPU, Radeon 6750XT GPU, and Corsair Dominator 6000 RAM. I also require at least two Samsung 970 Evo NVMe drives. The operating system is Windows 11 Pro, and I’m budgeting around $400 to $450. Thanks a lot and good luck!
Beyond ASUS Prime boards, all B650 models offer strong VRM cooling and a comprehensive feature list. With a $400 budget, it feels a bit steep for an AM5 board. The MSI B650 Gaming+ WiFi seems like a great option, though it’s tough to miss the other ASUs either.
Hardware Unboxed offers a detailed video reviewing the capabilities and VRM efficiency of virtually all B650 boards available. Recent BIOS releases could alter some previous findings about memory training durations, and costs might differ now, but aspects such as VRM performance and rear IO features remain consistent. Regarding power delivery, only a few Asus Prime models and the Gigabyte B650M K showed weaknesses. The rest handled the 7950X smoothly without problems, making any B650 model except those three generally adequate. When examining the pricing chart for the B650E-E range, it appears no exact match in feature sets concerning PCIe configuration, though many solid options exist. The closest alternatives seem to be the Asrock B650E Taichi or the MSI B650 Carbon WiFi, especially if a PCIe Gen 5 slot is essential.
