That's probrably the biggest concern about it for me. It's not good to stress anything to it's limit as a norm (Meaning all the time/Daily use) and in the case of this setup, I have to wonder about VRM throttling because they will if temps get and stay hot enough for long enough, heatsinks and so on aside. If VRM temps go up and come down again that's expected but you don't want it to be there and remain as a normal part of it's operation. You are right though about finding boards with signs of it - Have a few myself that way from really old to more or less new and they all still run OK, I'm just saying there is no "Good" reason to chance it if you don't have to. Using the run I linked to - That chip was actually making the VRMs of that board (Crosshair V-Z) throttle and I coudn't push it any higher because of it. The chip wanted more to go higher but the VRM setup, as good as it is just coudn't deliver what the chip was demanding and even with a heatsink and fan in use, the VRM's were just smoking hot. Even Buildzoid told me that after we were talking about it one day on the HWbot discord and he said directly that was probrably why it stopped where it did. Not the same situation here but you know what I mean.
