The 8 pin works perfectly by itself; the manual confirms 8 pin power or 8 + 4 pin power. Some people mention the 4 pin provides extra wattage for heavy overclocking, but you’d need liquid nitrogen to cool a CPU producing over 300 watts. I own a 3700x and x570 ASUS TUF gaming Wi-Fi cards, which have worked well for nine months. Don’t worry, just plug your PSU into the 8 pin and it should be fine.

I own an Asus ROG Strix 570-E paired with a Ryzen 9 3900X. It initially ran fine using only the 8-pin connector, but then began showing errors. I powered it down and connected the PCIe power cables for the graphics card. Swapping out video cards didn’t help. Changing the PSU, RAM, and motherboard to an MSI MPG Gaming Pro Carbon still produced the same issue. I’d heard the extra 4-pin connector was meant for overclocking, but it seems unrelated here. My CPU had just been returned when I read others were needing that connector to boot. I’m hoping this will resolve the problem and I can stop swapping parts, returning to the original Asus board. I’ve ordered a new COMeap 4+4 pin connector for my Corsair CX650M from Amazon, in case it works without another return or a different PSU. I’ll share updates soon.
