I could possibly secure an MSI X299 Gaming Pro at a decent rate, even though it appears the product is no longer available. It might still be worth considering if you're interested in its performance. I wasn't able to locate any reviews from Linus or Buildzoid.

It's fine, though it feels unusual to visit Skylake X derivatives atm.

It seems like you're weighing options. A board paired with a 10980XE might cost less than just a TR 3960X chip without a motherboard. While the 3960X could run faster, the Intel platform is significantly cheaper in this situation. You're also thinking about whether you need a limited setup.

Consider the PCIe lanes if needed; the X570 with the 3950x works well. If those aren't necessary, explore alternatives that could save cost or offer more flexibility.

The 3950X performs similarly to the 10980XE but has fewer cores and is much more affordable. Unless you require platform-specific benefits, consider waiting and assess whether you truly need to upgrade to a higher-end model.
