This gaming laptop isn't working properly.
Hello, I'm facing a problem with my gaming laptop. It's a powerful machine, but it doesn't seem to run games well. Here are the details of my setup: Laptop model ASUS Zeph G16, Intel Core Ultra 9 185H 2.50 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, 8GB RAM (31.4 GB free), 64-bit OS, 120Hz monitor (2560 x 1440). I'm using the NVIDIA app to tweak settings for EA Sports FC 25. After adjusting resolution, quality, and effects, the game still feels sluggish with frequent stutters and inconsistent frame rates around 30 FPS. I'm unsure if my system can handle the game properly. Are there any missing requirements or steps I should follow? Thanks for your help. Arief.
Verify the games are utilizing the dGPU instead of the iGPU. Switching the battery mode to High Performance will achieve this effect.
Never tried that app before, but based on what I see from your screenshot and some guesses about how each setting affects the game: 1. It uses ray tracing for lighting. 2. It runs in ultra settings. 3. It’s set to 4k resolution. 4. It uses strands for hair instead of blocky textures. If #1 is really relying on ray tracing, it tends to boost FPS significantly. #2 and #4 are likely to lower FPS as well. I haven’t played EA Sports, but Ultra grass on FF15 with strands for hair in TR did reduce my FPS. Usually the gap between Ultra and High settings isn’t huge, while the FPS drop is more noticeable. #3 on a monitor under 4k means downsampling, probably making the GPU work harder. Remember, a laptop GPU is a weaker version compared to a desktop one, and poor cooling can further hurt performance.
You're running at 4K with maximum performance and ray tracing on a 4070 that draws 85 to 105 watts—definitely not unexpected
