I recently assembled a PC using an ASUS ROG Crosshair Vii Hero and it seems the SSD isn’t being recognized in the M.2 slot between the CPU and GPU. It shows up in the bottom-right slot, though. I reached out to Asus, who told me they’ve already “escalated” the issue to a technician, but haven’t responded recently. I’ve seen similar cases before—most users use SATA SSDs, which aren’t compatible with the top slot. I’d rather stay in the top slot for its heatsink support. I’m just wondering if something was wrong with the board itself and don’t want to replace the motherboard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

No, I can't view or access the drive directly.

This doesn't fix the issue where the top m.2 slot doesn't detect drives—just use the lower slot if it's the only NVMe drive.

The motherboard arrived recently, and I’m not sure if it’s running an outdated BIOS version.

I received the board during Black Friday in 2019. I have two SATA drives that are both recognized.

You're checking which SATA ports are connected to the drives, as this could be causing the issue.

Assuming 1 and 3, the bios identifies them as drives one and three
