You own an ASUS laptop that's been running for two years and has become slow. You're trying to reinstall Windows using a bootable USB drive, but you encountered an error about the disk being in GPT format. You're worried about losing data and don't want to wipe your HDD. You also mentioned formatting the C drive where Windows was installed, which seems like a mistake. Are there any options to fix this without cleaning the hard drive?

You'll need to transfer the data from the drive, then convert it to GPT format before using it.

Launch from a Linux Live USB (like Ubuntu). You'll then have the chance to move all your files from other partitions to an external drive or another storage medium. This might be the only solution available.

Yes, you can request a 1-2 TB USB and an 8 GB thumb drive from a friend. The entire procedure—downloading Ubuntu, transferring files, re-partitioning, reinstalling Windows 10, and restoring everything—should finish within a few hours.

All that I can do is because I'm in India, and it's not the best part right now. The internet here moves slowly. Can you tell me the file size of Ubuntu? The downloadable version, specifically.

It appears the file size is around 700MB for the older version (12.04).
