Ad blocking stopped working because of Manifest V3. The best fix is to switch to a different browser. I’m using Safari since I have a Mac, but Brave says it will keep supporting Manifest V2. Firefox could also work, though it’s been removed from many users’ lists recently.
Firefox has its quirks, I've been using it for a while but recently moved to Brave. To be honest, some of those problems aren't Firefox's responsibility. It seems Google really pushed the web to rely on WebKit first, with other browsers coming later. Firefox on Linux was even more challenging for me—Google Sheets looked completely broken and I depend on them every day. Still, it remains a solid choice.
Google Chrome is phasing out support for Manifest V2 and pushing users to adopt extensions for Manifest V3. This update eliminates features that ad blockers depend on, which explains why many blockers won’t work with newer Chrome versions. To keep using Chrome as your primary browser, you’ll need to switch to an extension compatible with Manifest V3. Be mindful that these blockers may not perform as well and you might still encounter ads, though likely fewer than without any blocker at all—so there’s still some advantage. uBlock Origin Lite is the current Manifest V3 version of uBlock Origin. You can change your browser settings. Brave and Edge run on Chromium, which supports V2 but will eventually stop supporting it. Edge isn’t accepting new V2 extensions but still allows existing ones and updates them; its V2 support ends around June 2025, with a vague promise to continue until then. Brave has built-in ad blocking without needing extra extensions, though the changes will affect existing ones. For alternatives, consider DNS-based blockers like PiHole, though they have limitations. This situation is temporary—Google plans to disable force support for V2 in an upcoming update scheduled for June 2025.
The software is built on chromium, yet I'm operating with Opera alongside UBlock, and everything seems to be functioning properly so far. The Windows 10 version is particularly important in this case.
