I've bought a used Lenovo Thinkcenter SmallFormFactor (SFF), 700 series. I'm pretty sure the previous owner swapped some parts, since it came with 1TB SSD, 32gb RAM, GeForce 710 and a i5-6600K. Keyboard, mouse and an old monitor included. For 270€ I'm very happy, but there is something that concerns me: the 6600K is a 90W CPU, but on full load I've never seen the wattage on HWMonitor going above 55W. My guess is that the motherboard and PSU combination on this office PC doesn't have the guts to power that CPU. Cinebench R23 score: around 3600. Not to mention that it is a K CPU and the mobo doesn't offer any OC utilities. Do you think my guess is correct? Thank you, have a nice day

They might be constrained by the MOSFETs or the BIOS power limit of 65W. The second option seems more likely, as it's adjustable. Running Prime95 with smaller FFTs could help approach that limit without exceeding it.

Thanks for your quick responses! I’m confused about why they keep selling it. My thoughts: I could upgrade to an i7-6700 because its TDP is lower and it supports multithreading, which fits my coding needs. But even used, it costs over 170€, which feels high for a CPU that’s only five years old. Plus, it might still hit power limits. Building a PC with what I have would mean getting a new motherboard, PSU, and cooler—maybe skipping the 710 or selling it. That would let me overclock and use the "K" feature. It’d still be around 170€, and I could probably find a good case at the local recycling center. Or I could stick with it, since it still works, even if the fan control stops working when I wake up. Do you think this makes sense? Or is it better not to invest in something so outdated?
