You're likely referring to the included drivers or those you add yourself. What exactly are you asking about?

ChromeOS seems rooted in Gentoo, which means technically it could work, but you'd likely have to adjust certain developer configurations. It might be simpler to switch to a different Linux distribution such as Ubuntu instead.

I’d like to use Windows 7, but I’m using an old Dell laptop with an i5 2520M or similar. Windows 10 keeps causing problems—like the mousepad not working and frequent Wi-Fi issues. On my current setup, Windows 10 often messes with the connection. I need to handle these fixes myself.

I'm currently testing Windows 10 versus Ubuntu 17.04 in a gaming performance comparison, and I'm quite impressed by the results on Linux. A 1070 can handle Dirt Rally at 4K with over 60 FPS consistently. While the library size is smaller on Linux, it's performing well for gaming tasks, especially with Nvidia GPUs.

Recent searches show you can likely run Windows 7 with updates on newer hardware. For those on a tighter budget, consider SteamOS or other Linux distributions that offer native or emulator support for modern titles.
