The space spans two floors with a wired connection between them. Right now I’m using an ASUS RT3000 as the primary device, linked to a second router (Dlink 859) via a wired wall port. Internet speed is only 50Mbps, so latency and bandwidth aren’t major issues. Because the routers are from different brands, what configuration options do you have? You can rename both devices to match their names and set unique passwords.

Are both devices able to join a mesh network? Ensure they support mesh functionality. Verify compatibility between the routers—especially if one acts as the main Wi-Fi and the other as an access point—to guarantee seamless integration.

Only ASUS supports this setup. The other DLink model is outdated. Since they’re now linked via LAN cable, you may need to update your configuration or use a compatible device.

Check if the Dlink supports AP-only mode; if not, it’s not worth using the old device. It’s safer to purchase a new access point instead.
