This ASUS PCE-N15 wireless connection is extremely sluggish.
Hello, I received an ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless-N this Christmas, but the performance was quite poor. The speed is around 10m/s even with a fiber connection offering up to 100m/s. I've adjusted some settings, but nothing has improved. My room is roughly 7 meters from the router. Once I load a website, the speed drops to about 5m/s. If anyone has any suggestions or fixes for this issue, please let me know. Specs: GPU GT 1030, CPU i7 2600, PSU unknown (600W), Motherboard Dell 6D7TR, RAM 8GB, OptiPlex 990 Mini-Tower.
Your readings are expressed in MegaBYTES or MegaBITs each second. This matters a lot. 100 Mbps equals about 12.5 Megabytes per second. If your connection gives you 10 Megabytes per second, you're nearly at capacity. Remember, ISPs often list Megabits while programs like Steam use Bytes. Your wireless N card works on 2.4 Ghz, which is prone to interference from things like microwaves, Bluetooth devices, nearby WiFi networks, etc. Even though the card supports 150Mbps, you're likely getting around two-thirds of that speed in practice. If you're using an Android device, try installing a WiFi analyzer to check signal strength and nearby networks, plus which channel performs best. Also note that being too close to your router can weaken the signal because omnidirectional antennas broadcast it widely.
