Thinking about a change, seeking guidance.
Greetings to all.
I constructed a cost-effective computer system in January of 2017, and recently I've been contemplating an improvement.
Here are my current specifications:
Processor: Intel Core i3-6100
Motherboard: Asus H110M-k
Graphics Card: MSI Radeon RX 470 with 4GB of memory
Memory: Ballistix DDR4-2400MHz 8GB (single stick)
Power Supply: XFX TS 450W 80PLUS BRONZE
I primarily utilize it for gaming, and while it has performed adequately over time, I’ve observed a trend of reduced frame rates in more recent titles. Therefore, I'm aiming to modernize my system, but I am keen to avoid excessive expenditure.
I’ve been investigating potential upgrades and am considering purchasing a Ryzen 5 2600x processor paired with a new motherboard. In doing so, I have several inquiries that I hope you can address:
Is this processor still a viable choice?
If I proceed with this purchase, will an additional memory module be required? Is 2400MHz sufficient for the system's needs?
Will my existing power supply unit be capable of supporting the transition to this new processor and motherboard (likely an ASRock B450M Pro4)?
That i3-6100 processor should be upgraded soon – it’s time for a replacement! You'll also want to add an additional RAM module. Consider upgrading to a Ryzen 3600 or 3700 processor if your finances permit. Your power supply unit should be adequate, but a 550W or greater model might be beneficial if you plan to upgrade your graphics card. A 450W unit would work just fine with an RX 470, however.
The 3600X costs 223€ and the 3600 is 182€ currently in Portugal. The 2600X is priced at 145€. I’m aiming to keep my CPU expenditure under 150€, as I also need a new motherboard. However, is 2400MHz sufficient for the 2600X? Or does it require faster RAM speeds?
