I own an HP Chromebook 14-SMB, but launching anything is a problem. When I pick a game, it says to update Chrome, which seems fine, but there’s no update button. Updating Chrome OS also shows as up to date. It feels like something should be smooth, but it isn’t, and it’s frustrating.

To refresh Google Chrome, open the Menu (three dots) and choose Help > About Google Chrome. The browser will launch a new window where you can update it or follow the prompts for the update.

No, it won't stop you. Managing your school doesn't prevent you from pursuing your goals.

It's possible for schools to pause or postpone operating system updates before they reach students' devices. Typically, updates aren't delivered until after a certain period, often two to three weeks following their public release.

Hmm, interesting. The Chrome version I have doesn't match the one you mentioned (84.0.4147.125). I should mention I'm not using a Chromebook or Chrome OS. On Stadia Community, some guides say Version 76.0.3809.136 isn't the newest, while others confirm Stadia needs Version 78.0.3904.106 for Chromebooks/Chrome OS. It might help to check the Stadia Community discussion for more details.

Some useful links include:

- CrOS Updates Serving: Latest Chrome OS updates for various Chromebook models
- How to Get Updates on Your End-of-Life Chromebook: iFixit guide on CloudReady
- Stadia Availability & Requirements: PC needs a recent Chrome browser version

Please note: Stadia Guide doesn't promise CloudReady will work with Stadia. The links provided may have downloadable content, and I don’t have experience with them or Chrome OS. I’m sharing what I found, but please use at your own risk. Source: Chromebook Update? on Stadia Community.

The info about availability mentions your account isn't compatible with Stadia. It seems you're using a Google Education account.

The stadium records are managed via standard Gmail. I only logged in using my school email on my Chromebook.

I’ll update my Chromebook using another account and then switch back to my school. Right now I just need to release a lot of stuff on my school side since I can’t use a Google account for a while due to legal reasons and needing a temporary burner for games.

It seems related to your operating system version even though you're using a managed school Chromebook. You already have ChromeOS 80 installed.

The device isn't receiving new updates as it's still running version 76.0.3809.136.
