I deleted all important files from the root directory using a force command. Now I’m wondering if there’s a way to restore them without reinstalling the operating system. Not very experienced with Linux. Thanks!

You don’t have to purchase the operating system since Linux is open-source... Which distribution would you prefer?

Linux is available at no cost. Use BalenaEtcher with the Ubuntu ISO from the official releases to make a USB installation media.

To ensure you know the price before investing, it's wise to research costs online.

You could try recovering the lost data from the drive, though it might cost a lot. If you're mainly concerned about reinstalling your operating system, downloading an ISO and installing it fresh would be a better option. Just make sure you're confident about the person you're working with—wiping your system is a serious decision.

Yes, it functions properly. My colleague reinstalled it for me via USB as well. Appreciate your assistance.

Your friend has access to your password because they were given elevated permissions, which is unusual and suspicious. A "friend" who does this is likely not a genuine friend but someone trying to exploit the situation.
