These RGB fans are not working properly.
About a year ago I assembled my own computer with the specifications listed below. Until recently, everything worked smoothly until about two weeks ago when the RGB fans on the case stopped functioning. It’s important to note the fans still spin and operate normally, only the RGB lights remain inactive. I hadn’t used any RGB control software before, assuming the default settings were sufficient. The case came with a few buttons to adjust the RGB profile and switch modes. When I power on the machine, the fans work perfectly but the RGB stays off. I’ve tried moving the RGB headers to different locations on the motherboard without success. I’ve observed the fans flicker in and out when I turn the PC on, suggesting a potential issue with Windows rather than the hardware itself. I also suspect the recent update to Windows 11’s dynamic lighting feature might be involved. I’ve experimented with the dynamic lighting settings but haven’t found a solution yet. Here are my specs: Case – Lian Li Lancool 205 Mesh C Fans; Default fans inside the case (exact model unclear); CPU – Ryzen 5 5600X; GPU – Zotac GeForce RTX 3060 12GB; Motherboard – MSI B550 Torpedo; PSU – Corsair CX-M Series CX750M; RAM – Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2x16GB; Storage – Crucial P3 PCIe 3.0 NVMe 2280 M.2 1TB (box missing); 2TB M.2 SSD (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth); ASUS PCE-AX3000 WiFi 6 PCI-E Adapter; OS – Windows 11 Pro 23H2 64-bit.
It seems the system handles lighting both manually and via software. I’m still trying to understand how these two methods fit together. Edited February 16, 2024 by leclod
I strongly suspect the LEDs failed, all three case fans ceased functioning simultaneously, and I regret not having any nearby friends with spare fans. I’ll open Task Manager to investigate if something is interfering with the fans. Unfortunately, I’m unsure how to check Task Manager for fan-related issues. If you could guide me on that, it would be greatly appreciated.
Note: On the motherboard, there’s an RGB header I haven’t used (the one near the top), which I have a dock for both fans and RGB. I tried connecting a specific fan to an unused RGB port on the motherboard and a fan power cable to a nearby port, but the fan still turned on without any RGB response.
I’m not quite sure how the RGB settings are managed on my device since I haven’t used it much. It seems to have just two buttons at the top to switch between options like rainbow, solid red, green, blue, and a few other presets. I don’t recall the exact settings, but that’s not crucial for this issue. In the photo, the labeled C and M buttons control the lights, while the remaining controls are mostly obvious but not super important here.
