Hey, I’m trying to set up a new rig for someone who mainly plays low-end titles like Roblox, Rocket League and Minecraft. They also enjoy Minecraft with lots of mods and visual effects, and I’ve seen their CPU (AMD 5600G) get quite warm during those sessions. Their current setup is a 7800XT, which barely does anything useful, and they plan to upgrade soon. I’m considering switching to a 9600X but heard AI suggests a 9800X3D would be better for Minecraft. I’m unsure if that’s worth it since the performance gain seems minimal compared to the cost, especially since they don’t need high FPS and are not planning to jump into AAA games anytime soon. The 9800X3D is available at reasonable prices in my area. I’m curious what you think about choosing between the 9600X and the 9800X3D. Thanks for your advice!

The X3D would boost your FPS in these titles since they favor cache and GHz performance. Regarding lower heat output, I’m not convinced. It consumes significantly more TDP compared to the 5600X. I suggest keeping an eye on AMD’s future releases, as there are discussions about a 9600X3D.

CPUs tend to get warm, which is normal and not a reason to spend extra on a more powerful processor just for occasional warmth. In fact, it might become even hotter, pushing the thermal design power higher. Upgrading isn't necessary unless you have specific needs. Your reasoning is correct, but I still suggest avoiding upgrades.

Also, keep in mind that I frequently search for hardware information and use various AI tools for different tasks. What I've realized is that I should never fully depend on AI when it comes to computer hardware—it often gives inaccurate details or combines specs from two separate devices to guess what you might want. It lacks real knowledge. Don't rely on AI.

No, AI isn't a trustworthy way to find info. Consider other options like the R7 5700X or 5700X3D. Check if your PC has over 16GB of memory; add more if needed. Switching platforms usually isn't worth it.

Skip AM4, it's too slow.

These aren't typical chips you should buy. Avoid following AI advice unless you already have the right answer (it's surprising). For someone on a budget and wanting to spend more, a 9800x3D would be about $500 for a CPU—way too much. Go with a 9600x; it'll run significantly faster than the 5600g. Did they mention a GPU? Probably not the best choice if you're using an iGPU. Just make sure the cooling is adequate.

For the titles mentioned—Roblox, Rocket League, Minecraft with mods—the 9600X is more than sufficient. The 9800X3D shines mainly for memory-heavy AAA titles that gain from 3D V Cache; you probably won’t notice a significant boost. If the price difference isn’t large and money isn’t a priority, the 9800X3D won’t affect performance much and can help with future changes in gaming habits. For lighter Minecraft games, the 9600X offers better value. TL;DR: 9600X works well for its intended use, provides better value. The 9800X3D is only worthwhile for targeting top-tier low-end performance later on.

I don’t rely on AI to create my answers. My writing follows patterns and styles I’ve learned, but I aim to sound natural and varied.

If cost isn't a concern, simply obtain the 9800x3D and they'll be ready for more challenging games, along with additional tasks that gain from caching.
