I bought a TS5020 Canon printer from Amazon.com, sold by Adorama in New York, in October 2021. It remains under Canon's warranty.
I was unable to complete the registration via Canon’s online system, repeatedly receiving errors about an invalid serial number. I tried multiple times and assumed it was just a technical issue on their website.
Later, after six months, I noticed two black spots on the underside of the glass where paper was placed for copying or scanning. These appeared as dark ink marks, sometimes faint.
When I reached out to Canon support, I encountered difficulties because the printer wasn’t registered, preventing them from accessing my personal details. They refused to connect me with a live representative.
After several attempts, I finally spoke to a live person who reiterated that the serial number was invalid. They conducted their own checks and discovered the model was intended only for Canadian buyers, not U.S. customers.
Because of this, they couldn’t provide warranty assistance. They provided a Canadian support contact and a live representative, but both refused to help due to the location mismatch.
They pointed out that Canon printers with model number TS5020 should only be sold in Canada, not to anyone in the United States.
They questioned how a New York-based company could sell such printers to U.S. residents when they’re restricted to Canadian sales.
Eventually, I contacted the U.S. support representative and requested a supervisor. I explained the situation, asking if Canon was aware of a U.S.-based company selling their products to American customers who were only supposed to buy from Canadian buyers.
They admitted ignorance and mentioned that the upcoming board meeting would address this issue, highlighting the lack of warranty support for my printer.
They later offered me a replacement printer in exchange for the faulty one I had, promising online registration through Canon’s site. They apologized for the inconvenience and included two extra color and black ink cartridges.

Buyers should be aware: Canon printers model # TS5020 are not permitted for sale to U.S. citizens.
Disappointed with Adorama for not recognizing this or following Canon’s guidelines, I commend Canon for resolving the matter.

I don't agree with your claims. Why — the Canon USA site lists the TS5020 —
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/...t-...5020-black
The Canada Canon website shows the same printer model —
https://www.canon.ca/en/product?nam...nd...o-Printers
Was your serial number a Canadian unit? I don't know. But saying that printer wasn't sold in the US seems wrong, in my opinion.

The contact number for Canon support in Canada is 905-524-3694. Contact them directly... Now... if you receive a different response than what I provided, it suggests someone other than me might be misleading here. As mentioned before, I didn’t need to provide the serial number to the Canadian support team—once I shared the model number TS5020, they confirmed the printer is only intended for Canada. Also, just for your reference, I actually received two TS5020 printers shipped to me because the first one failed on its test page. After registering it online, I still got the same invalid serial number issue. Here are the serial numbers I have now that are being sent back: KMRY12787... please try registering it and see the outcome. The second serial number is KMRY10597... attempt to register this one and let me know if you managed to do so. And here’s a copy of the error message I got when trying to register the first TS5020 printer: Error message. Pay attention to the second reason—it prevents registration. Of course, you’ll likely concentrate on the first issue and assume the serial number was entered incorrectly. I’m just trying to alert U.S. customers about a problem I faced while seeking warranty support through Canon.

Possibly Adorama received a set of serial numbers meant for Canada, though the product is available in the US. Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Canon-Products-TS...B01MTY15Z0 Walmart link: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Canon-PIXMA-T...y/55420117 Newegg link: https://www.newegg.com/canon-pixma-ts502...6828143366

I don't have the ability to confirm the Newegg or Walmart listings, but the Amazon link you shared matches the one where I bought my TS5020 printers. The "Visit the Canon Store" section in that link doesn't specify the origin of the printer and was included on the Amazon page when I made my purchase. Just because a store lists the model for sale doesn't guarantee it's available in the US.
