Hi everyone, I’m setting up a CAT 6 jack close to the breaker panel because the area has lots of electrical wiring. The floor runs through a space with just a 24-inch gap between three groups of power cables (five 15A and one 20A). I plan to run the Ethernet cable about 12 inches from each power bundle, keeping it parallel for 18 to 24 inches before the power lines spread out. This setup should work well for now, even if I upgrade to a faster network later. Regarding running cables alongside heating ducts—could that cause problems? If so, what distance should I maintain between them? Thanks for your help!

In such a brief span there shouldn't be any complications, yet for complete confidence shielded wires are recommended.

Like @brwainer said that interference is really more of a concern then people try running high and low voltage parallel for a significant run. Also here is an explanation about the difference in Cat standards. basically cat 7 would be the most stable, however they state that cat 6a should be more than enough for most peoples needs https://planetechusa.com/blog/ethernet-d...7-vs-cat8/

The issue with Cat 7 lies in it not being a complete cabling standard, which means many labeled Cat 7 cables are actually shielded (STP) versions of Cat 6 or Cat 6a. SFTP Cat6a is also offered, while your setup suggests SFTP applies only to Cat 7.

I've attempted to disrupt Ethernet connections by covering them with thick power cables, but so far no issues have occurred, even with inexpensive CAT 5 cables. Please let me know if this is helpful.

Thank you for the update. If the power cables aren't a concern, running near the steel ventilation system shouldn't create any problems.

I don't see why it would be a problem. Unless you are talking about running the cables beside an air handler or furnace with a motor that may create interference, but I doubt it would be a problem even if you did
