You're considering swapping the fans in your DS918+. The image you shared is helpful, but shipping a single replacement fan costs $54. You're curious if two NOCTUA fans could work as an alternative. Since you won't be under warranty and can afford two of these fans for less than one Synology model, it seems like a viable option. The Noctua fans should function properly.

Since the initial fan comes with a standard header, I'll proceed under that assumption. I also checked Amazon and noticed an alternative option that might be more affordable. The link provided points to a product page: Spoiler https://www.amazon.com/Synology-Maintena...V523R?th=1

I understand - it's nice to hear about a related video being released earlier.

I'm based in Canada and use the .com Amazon site. It seems the .com version might not be allowed. Perhaps I'm mistaken. Also, I don't believe Synology fans are top-notch. One of my friends noticed a buzzing noise about two and a half years after I bought the NAS, which Synology suspects is a bearing problem. I think Noctua produces better fans than Synology, but I'm unsure if they'll fit properly in my NAS. I hope they do, but I'm not completely confident.

Sorry, I didn't understand that. If you choose the right ones, they can last for years without making any noise.

I'm based in France and placed some orders on .com sites. Expect increased shipping costs.

Sure, that makes sense. The shipping fees would likely be over $50.

I just discovered a YouTube video showing someone using those Noctua fans I linked. He installed them in the DS920+, which is similar to my setup. I believe the enclosure could be adapted, though. He mentioned he had to take off one of the anti-vibration rubber strips on a corner to ensure a proper fit. So it’s not an exact match but quite close. These Noctua fans seem superior to the Synology ones.
