The strength of Linux lies in its flexibility—no single environment is limited. On my system, I use Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS and can switch between Cinnamon and KDE at login. Cinnamon offers a custom look inspired by Gnome2 with extra features. Mate is a modified version keeping the traditional Gnome2 vibe. KDE appeals to those who prefer a more vibrant interface. Xfce is ideal for older hardware or when performance matters most.
