The crew's performance on my 980ti / 6700k was disappointing and confusing, so I’ve given up. I checked Assetto Corsa and… not great. I’m looking for something with impressive visuals and solid gameplay. I don’t see a clear choice between simulators, arcade, or open world. I also want to avoid paying the full $60 unless it’s exceptional. What are racers enjoying these days that really stands out?
Looking at that link suggests a game related to racing or motorsports, possibly Forza Motorsport 6 Apex.
Forza Horizon 3, Forza Apex Grid 1 & 2, and Need for Speed projects are popular among fans. I’ve tried all of them. I’d love To choose Forza Horizon 3 over Forza Apex – the latter is free but costs $60 for the former. If you’re okay with performance quirks and UWP issues, FH3 offers a great open-world driving experience. The best games I’ve played recently include Dirt 1, 2, 3, Dirt Showdown (missed that one), and Dirt Rally – but be careful with the last one! Also, check out Automobilista based on the RFactor engine; it has half the mods in FH3 and is super easy to install.
That's weird. Runs fine on my 980Ti 5820K combo. 1440p 60+fps on max settings easily. Here's my list: DiRT Rally Project cars F1 2016 The Crew iRacing * I have Logitech racing wheel, can't comment on playing with controller. * Haven't had the time for Forza yet.
Codemasters is hosting its weekend on Steam with numerous excellent racing games available. DiRT Rally offers a half-price deal and stands out as the most engaging racing experience I've ever played; it requires patience to master but rewards you with satisfying performance. Grid 2 is another strong choice from Codemasters, perfect for fans of arcade-style racing, delivering over a hundred frames per second on your vehicle.
That's interesting. I saw some Dirt Rally videos on YouTube and found the visuals quite striking. I might try getting one before it ends. However, I don’t have a car with a wheel—I use a 360 controller. Someone mentioned Dirt Rally’s challenge without a wheel feels a bit misleading. I also updated Forza Apex and began downloading it. I’m curious about the differences between Horizon 3 and Forza Apex, though I’m not sure yet. The marketing estimates for Horizon 3 seem very appealing, but it’s priced at $60 and only available in the Windows store. Without any past experience, it’s hard to predict when or if the price might drop.
Yeah, dirt rally has a nice look and is really well optimized. I’m not joking—playing with a controller won’t make it much harder, though it’s tougher in faster sections. Even with all the boosts on, Forza Apex feels similar to Forza 6, but it’s not quite the same. There are lots of cars and tracks, but it doesn’t have the depth of Forza Horizon 3, so you can’t really predict how FH3 will perform based on Apex. Sadly, I don’t think FH3 will drop in price soon. The Xbone version might be an exception, but you’ll need a digital copy to play it on PC.
I also like Project Cars. Besides that, there are strong deals on racing games on Steam at the moment. The F1 series is especially popular.
