Thermalright might be affecting your memory due to overheating components.
I recently installed a brand new computer. Every time I attempted to enable XMP at 7200 MHz, the system wouldn’t boot, CMOS cleared, and the BIOS reset back to defaults. Once I re-enabled XMP, the problem persisted. It stabilized at 5800 MHz. The CPU supports 7200MHz Mobo, 8000 series Intel, and 13900K, with a minimum of 6400 if applicable. I’ve learned that Thermalright can lead to memory issues, possibly due to underclocking. I attempted to remount the board and performed a reverse clock cycle until I clicked. I rotated the GPU in an X pattern, adjusting by 1/8 turn to lower its speed to the CPU. After turning it on, the system failed to enter BIOS and displayed a black screen. I received all previous Asus error codes from when I enabled XMP, but now XMP is completely disabled. An orange light appeared over the error code, indicating a DRAM problem—this new light is unfamiliar. Is it the Thermalright causing this? I also tried using two fresh 7200 MHz RAM sticks borrowed from a friend, but the issues remained unchanged, with a black screen appearing. When testing with less pressure on the thermal paste or switching to Intel ILM mode, I’m unsure if that would help. Can I troubleshoot without applying thermal paste? My specs include an i9-13900K, ASUS Maximus Z790, 4090, and other components. Some error codes appear under specific conditions (7F, D6) with green or orange lights. The GPU was re-seated and the process didn’t resolve the issue.
