Thermal management and shutdown features for the i9-14900KF processor
I recently got an i9-14900KF and connected it to my system using a Corsair XC7 single loop. It runs EK CryoFuel coolant, but idle temps climb past 80°C. The core voltage stays fixed at 1.6V or higher. When I try to lower it, the chip shuts down instantly under load and needs a full power cycle, only to repeat the same problem. I've tried BIOS updates, various operating systems, XMP settings toggled, different RAM modules—nothing resolves the issue. The full specs show an ASUS ROG Strix Z790-F with 2 x 32GB DDR5 Corsair Vengeance at 5600MHz, paired with an MSI Suprim X 4090 ATX 3.0 1500W PSU.
It's running quite hot, yet it's holding at 80°C. Did you install a contact frame for the socket? If not, obtain one. What size is the radiator? Did you apply the thermal paste from the cooler or use your own? Have you verified the mounting pressure? The core voltage is quite high. Which BIOS power settings are active?
Consider locking or offsetting the voltage at the system's stable reference point. This works well for both development and running VMs.
I tried using the 150mv offset, but my PC didn’t start at all and the same happened with the 1.35V lock.
Interesting, your 14900kf handled the same settings well, but your load line calibration might differ. Consider trying 1.45v next.
