Hi, your first-generation iPad from earlier has limited capabilities. Running a full Windows version on it isn't feasible due to hardware constraints. However, you might be able to use a lightweight version or emulator, though performance will likely be poor. Your idea of managing files remotely is interesting, but the setup would require careful consideration of compatibility and resources.

Compatibility depends on particular chips and ARM designs. At release, MS indicated support for Snapdragon 835 and the forthcoming 845, originally due to a Qualcomm collaboration. However, not every ARM variant will function with it. It also requires x86 emulation, which demands a powerful processor. You might have found a version through a TechNet or MSDN subscription if you had access, but it seems unlikely to load or run on any iPad since it isn't listed as supported yet. Interesting note: Qualcomm and Apple have a rocky relationship, as seen in their legal disputes.

You might encounter the same problem if your Windows version supports hardware, but the main challenge remains getting to the firmware to install a new operating system. It’s essentially similar to jailbreaking or using a custom ROM, though you’ll need to look further than these communities to find someone who has done it before.

Looking for alternatives to Windows? There are several Linux distributions you could try depending on your needs.
