Yeah, it should be okay. I'm using six SP120s through a set of three-way splitters from a two-header B450 motherboard for power. Since the machine still boots without major issues, if anything went wrong, the RGB header might not work anymore. You could have been lucky. Updated August 26, 2022 by An0maly_76 Added more details
These RGB Corsair fans are also connected to a controller, but not directly to your case. You can link them to the controller if you wish.
You mentioned having an iCUE case earlier. It seems it should have a Lighting Node Core for RGB control. Check the underside of the motherboard tray—there should be a lighting node with a bare circuit board. Connect your RGB there. Make sure you match the port numbers correctly; incorrect sequences can cause issues with sequential RGB features. Fronts are numbered 1-3 from top to bottom, but they connect in a specific order. If you lack rear fans and only have one exhaust, connect it to port 4. Later you can move it to 5 or 6 if needed. Fan power will depend on the motherboard headers, possibly requiring splitters based on how many you have. Updated August 26, 2022 by An0maly_76
It might be a bearing issue leading to the fan touching the shroud. Ensure no wires, ties, or objects are touching the blades or between them and the housing. This could cause clicking or buzzing sounds. The 12V RGB header may have affected the fan's RGB LEDs, adding to the noise. If the fan stops working, send a return/exchange/RMA without mentioning the mistake. Updated August 26, 2022 by An0maly_76
