The narrative: My sibling just bought a Ryzen 5 4500 to upgrade his computer. After setting it up, I tried launching Windows but had no success. I updated the motherboard chipset driver to the newest release (20.45.36.210209a) and also changed the BIOS settings (F53h). The hardware details are: CPU – Ryzen 5 4500 (previously Ryzen 3 1200), GPU – Gigabyte RTX2060 Windforce OC MOBO, RAM – Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8 at 3000MHz. The problems I face are: I can’t access Windows. The screen displays the loading screen briefly before going black. I can only enter BIOS. Another issue is that none of the case fans start up. CPU and GPU fans are working normally. What I’ve done: reinstalled BIOS repeatedly, tried an older version, cleared CMOS, reinstalled Windows – still facing the same problem. PC shows Windows load screen briefly then crashes. I’ve even tried installing a different operating system, but it didn’t help. I’m really stuck and have been working on this for two days now. I’m starting to think the CPU might be faulty or incompatible. Any advice would be appreciated!

If the system didn’t work, you shouldn’t have managed to finish the POST process, though I’ll verify it for you. The Ryzen 5 4500 is compatible with BIOS T52d/F52e; updating to F53h appears more recent and should resolve issues. You reset the CMOS and kept all BIOS settings intact after the change—previously it functioned without problems. The black screen during Windows load is unusual, especially after a clean install with removed partitions. It might be related to the display driver, but a fresh setup shouldn’t cause this. I can imagine you’re feeling overwhelmed. Could you test your own RAM modules (one or two sticks) in the PC? Or run a memory test using MemTest86 to check for errors? There’s a hint of a graphics card issue, though it doesn’t seem clear. Also, could you tell me what power supply unit is installed?

I’ll test my own RAM after returning to the computer. The Windows setup didn’t function properly. Starting from the Windows CD in BIOS only extends the loading screen a bit. My PSU is a Cooler Master 550W. I’ll provide the exact model once I can inspect the PC.

Assuming it's the MasterWatt 550, perhaps the CPU has a problem then...? Check the RAM first or see if the older CPU works.

The PSU model is Cooler Master MWE 550 Bronze V2. Swapping out RAM didn't affect performance. The system runs smoothly using the previous CPU, although.

Could the issue lie with the processor?

Before sending it back, verify the BIOS update status and confirm whether the drive's configuration remains unchanged. Ensure the settings haven't shifted since installation, especially if the system defaults to AHCI instead of the intended mode. Review the current settings and available options; try adjusting them to see if they resolve the issue. Regarding fans, the problem might stem from BIOS changes overriding previous defaults. As for the drive type, clarify what kind of storage device the operating system is using.
