The memory test turned out fine. I’m thinking about whether it’s a good idea to install the original BIOS that came with the motherboard. I used the latest one for x99 deluxe (model 1103), which includes BIOS 804. I’d like to understand the worst-case situation better.

There are two versions between 1103 and 801. You might want to try that. It doesn't seem like a BIOS issue. Attempt resetting the BIOS. Avoid overclocking and let me know what happens.
