I just updated my old PC with fresh Mobo, processor, and RAM, but it didn’t work. The machine starts up but then fails completely. No video or any sound at all. I used a Ryzen 7 5800X on an Asus Gametuf B550 with Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 and an RTX 2080. I also tried the GPU and the graphics connector, but nothing happened. Please help!

When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's standard to provide your complete system details. Please format the specs as follows:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the age of the PSU along with its make and model. Also, mention the current BIOS version for your motherboard.
I recently upgraded my old PC with a new motherboard, processor, and RAM—no video changes!
Considering all the upgrades you made, we’ll compare the original and updated specs.

BIOS version 1004 or higher required. Did the box have a label showing the BIOS version?

I didn't catch it. The salesman at Micro Center said it was fine, but I won't know until I get home. What determines that specific version? Please excuse my confusion. Is it the processor or the motherboard? Where does this advice come from?

When 5xx boards were initially introduced, they were meant for the 3xxx series Ryzen. The 5xxx line followed later and needed a BIOS update for the new generation of 5xxx processors to function properly. Over time, it seems there are very few, if any, 5xx boards remaining in stock that have had the necessary BIOS applied by the manufacturer—though it's possible some older models exist, they're unlikely. The best way to confirm is to look at the motherboard's specifications; a box indicating "5th gen ready" would be reassuring.

Video ports on the motherboard won't operate without an APU CPU. Since your CPU lacks integrated graphics, these ports remain inactive.

There are no audible beeps or warning signals indicating issues. If everything checks out, consider seeking a second opinion from a friend or visiting a Micro Center for assistance.

When purchasing from MicroCenter, if your motheboard requires an upgrade, they are most likely to handle the update for you.

It depends on the situation, but an updated bio might affect whether a video is needed.
