Hi there,
I've had an ongoing issue with my usb ports for what must be 2 years now, and i've just kind of dealt with it but i'm curious as to whether theres a fix or not. So for a long while i've had this situation where my USB ports will sometimes randomly cut off, it could be one of them, could be both, sometimes ( though rarely ) its all of them, only ever happens for a few seconds, everything comes back and works fine. I've had no way to replicate the issue, i've gone months with it not happening, then sometimes it happens every day for a few days, i've replaced usb hubs, tried direct into the back of the pc, turned off all sorts of power saving and suspend settings, but nothings completely stopped it. Its less of an urgent issue and more of an annoyance when i'm mid game and my controller drops for a moment or two, or calling with friends and my mic cuts off for a second, anyone know the route cause?

Have you checked if the BIOS has been updated? There were problems with the USB ports in the older BIOS version.

I most recently changed it about a year ago, recalling the problem before the first update. It seems to be unpredictable—sometimes I face weeks without any issues, then suddenly it occurs again, returning to normal.

I believe I might have cursed myself by mentioning it rarely occurred, since it seems to be becoming more common now. While playing Final Fantasy XIV, I experienced frequent 1fps stutters that matched every USB hub shutting down and restarting. It didn't matter whether the hub was connected to the back of my PC, the front ports, or through a hub—I checked the Event Viewer but wasn’t familiar with the tools, so I had no idea what I was searching for. Around that time, I saw several error codes: devicesetupmanager event ID 152, disk warnings ID 51, kernel-eventTracing event ID 28, and BTHUSB event ID 17. It was a real puzzler.

Hello there,
I've been experiencing a persistent problem with my USB ports for about two years now. I had posted about it before, but it seemed to fade away for a while, so I didn’t feel the need to ask again. Now it happens regularly, sometimes every day or even more often. I’ve tried various solutions—replacing hubs, connecting directly to the PC, adjusting power settings, and even using different ports—but nothing has completely resolved the issue.

Recently, my USB ports would randomly disconnect, sometimes just one or two at a time, then reconnect instantly. Everything works fine afterward. I’ve had no way to reproduce it consistently, and it’s become more of a minor annoyance than an urgent problem. It usually happens when I’m playing games or making calls, and my microphone cuts out briefly.

I checked the Event Viewer, but I’m not very familiar with it yet. The logs showed several errors around the time it occurred: devicesetupmanager event ID 152, disk warnings ID 51, kernel events 28, and BTHUSB events 17. It’s been a puzzling situation, especially since I recently bought a separate-powered USB hub that still doesn’t fix it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Please let me know what might be causing this.

Instead of using Event Viewer (temporarily), check Reliability History/Monitor. It offers a more user-friendly interface and the timeline view can help identify trends. You can click on any entry for additional information, though it might not always be immediately useful. Open Reliability History/Monitor, adjust the window to display all data, and start with a day showing numerous errors. Choose that day, capture a screenshot, and share it via imgur (www.imgur.com > New Post).

I've been hoping for this to occur again, but unfortunately it still doesn't appear in reliability stats. The issues here are all identifiable—like GOG, my VPN before, etc.—so they don't match what we see on USBs. I've reinstalled all my USB drivers and similar things, but nothing has worked.
