There is an issue with Windows 11 installation: a required media driver is missing.
I'm setting up Windows on a brand new machine for the first time. I pick the desired version, language, and other settings, and it launches shortly. Almost immediately, a warning appears saying a required media driver is missing. I used Rufus to create a USB drive, but even that version had the same problem. I suspected a missing NVMe driver was the cause, so I downloaded the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver v19.5.0.1037 from the motherboard's site. The installer lists four drivers, but only when I turned off the option to hide incompatible ones. Installing just one or all of them seems incorrect. I also searched for Samsung drivers but couldn't locate any for the 980 Pro—it looks like they don’t provide separate drivers. Next, I pulled every driver from the motherboard page and tried selecting them, though some were marked compatible but didn’t add new devices, blocking progress. Here are my system specs:
- Motherboard: MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI ATX LGA1700 (updated to latest 7D25vAA driver)
- Processor: Intel Core i7-13700KF 3.4 GHz 16-core
- Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVMe SSD
- Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM
- RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32
- Graphics: Asus TUF GAMING OC GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8 GB
- GPU: Samsung 980 Pro
Intel Rapid Storage Technology applies to SATA drives. For NVMe, verify in your UEFI settings that it uses the standard NVMe driver. Apologies, I’m unable to assist further. MSI offers no documentation for its UEFI on motherboards.
