There is an issue where the app randomly stops working.
Hello everyone,
I've been facing a quite frustrating problem for some time now. I'm not sure exactly when it began, but I'll keep the details brief. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
The issue appears often in WebStorm and Google Chrome. With WebStorm, it simply crashes without giving any warning. Chrome, on the other hand, reports a STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION and asks me to reload the tab, after which everything works again. Another symptom is receiving random "Segmentation Fault" errors during NodeJS tasks I run locally in WSL. The games themselves are fine, though I do experience occasional crashes while playing.
What I've tried so far:
- Toggling XMP mode off and on
- Running Memtest86, OCTT, Prime95 to check hardware health
- Windows Event Viewer is empty
- BIOS is up-to-date; I'm using Intel Profile in Performance mode (added a month ago)
- System specs:
- CPU: i9 13900KF
- Motherboard: ASUS Z690 TUF DDR5 WIFI
- Memory: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Black RGB 32GB(2x16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000 6000MHz CL36 F5-6000J3636F16GX2-TZ5RK
- GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX 3080 10GB
- OS: Windows 11 Pro (currently up-to-date)
I'm really stuck and need to develop software on this machine without frequent interruptions. It's quite frustrating.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! Are you aware of the BIOS version on your motherboard? Have you reset the CMOS after confirming the BIOS was updated to the newest release? It might be useful to check Device Manager for any warnings with a yellow exclamation mark. You didn’t specify the PSU’s brand or model, nor its age. Chrome indicates a STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred somewhere. Go here; chrome://settings/reset and try resetting Chrome. Did you make any platform or system upgrades before this problem appeared?
BIOS is the newest version but I faced the same problem with the previous one as well. Currently I'm using 3602. I've used factory and earlier models, which are 3501. My PSU is HX1500i and it's only a few months old. I have an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 on my CPU. The only device that needs attention is the RAID controller, which seems fine according to what I know. Recently I upgraded with another 16x2 kit, but the issue began after that. After removing the other one, the problem persists. I've also tried switching it around. I've reset Chrome now to check if it resolves the matter. I don't think Chrome alone is the cause since similar issues appear in other programs too. For example, when using Prettier.
I've conducted extensive research and noticed many similar problems with others. It seems like my CPU might be defective despite passing tests, which matches what most commenters reported. I managed to fix it by lowering my core ratio from 55x to 50x. I'm likely to return the product for a replacement.
