I recently enhanced my system using the pinned link, but I'm encountering stability problems while playing Elden Ring. It seems the game might be affected, or it's similar to other titles like Warzone that sometimes run slow. Initially, I suspected a hard drive issue because loading times felt inconsistent and read/write speeds weren't optimal—though I doubted it was the main cause. I also considered CPU bottlenecks; checking in Ryzen Master showed 100% utilization on the PPT, which might limit performance. Thermal factors came into play too—I noticed my current case only has two fans (one intake, one exhaust). However, temperatures aren't extremely high according to HWinfo, so a thermal issue seems unlikely. I'm unsure about all these details and feel overwhelmed. I'm reaching out for advice since I don’t have much technical expertise and this is beyond my comfort zone. My current setup: https://se.pcpartpicker.com/list/cRQpv3. Planned upgrades include switching to a Fractal Design Pop XL Air case and replacing my cooler with a Kraken Z73. I’ve attached images of my previous results and temperature data from CrystaldiskMark.
Expand your question about the observed issues. Are you noticing crashes, crashes to the desktop, or full system freezes? Is there a blue screen of death? Does the system slow down or behave erratically? When running games, do you need to push the CPU to maximum usage? You mentioned it’s likely not related to storage.
We need more details about what causes the instability. Are you referring to frame drops, stutters, skipping frames, freezes, or crashes? Also, pinning at 5700x in games seems unusual. Even in a multiplayer title like WZ 2.0, it should maintain around 45-50% performance when the game is pushing full speed. GPU and CPU temperatures (assuming the third column shows max) are quite high. I own an Asus TUF 3080 that never exceeded 70°C during 4K gaming. You have a powerful 3080, it should typically stay in the 60s most of the time. That furnace you mentioned is likely overkill; it should be holding steady around 60°C. There are many great options available for 100-150USB modules.
I agree with the earlier reply, you need to measure "sluggish." It could be stuttering, frame drops, input lag, etc.—any of these might point to another problem. Use Afterburner+RTSS, enable the frame time graph and frame rate counter. Describe what you observe, where the sluggishness occurs, and consider recording a video. Keep in mind that Elden Ring performs poorly, running badly with many issues like frame drops and stutters on its own, plus being limited to 60 FPS. You might want to try another well-made game next, such as Doom Eternal, and let us know your experience. For more demanding RT titles, Dying Light 2 would be a better option. Only then can we assist you further.
