Hi,
I’m a somewhat seasoned builder, but I’m running into difficulties I can’t easily fix. A few days ago, when turning on my PC, I’d sometimes see a black screen and fail to load to BIOS (with an immediate power-off if the button was pressed). Other times, it would boot into MSI Bios with a spinning Windows circle, which took several minutes to reach.

I tried disabling Secure Boot once, but that only worked once. Then I reset the CMOS, but that didn’t help. I updated the BIOS, but again, no improvement.

When I power down three times in a row, I reach the advanced repair stage, where startup troubleshooting and reverting updates failed. I followed these steps:
- Reseated RAM and GPU
- Reduced RAM to one slot
- Switched output to motherboard graphics

Still, I couldn’t get to BIOS consistently, though I did see debug lights on MOBO for ‘VGA’ in cases where I couldn’t reach BIOS. However, I suspect this isn’t a GPU issue since the built-in graphics didn’t change. No lights came up when I posted into BIOS.

Occasionally, I’d enter Windows and see a BSOD for driver pnp watchdog. I ran sfc and dism cmd, tried a recovery drive, but it failed.

Because the CMOS/BIOS update didn’t work, I thought it was a Windows problem. After resetting, personal files remained, and the issue persisted.

Not being able to reach BIOS makes me suspect a BIOS/MBOO error, but eventually getting into BIOS leads to Windows. Anyone have any advice? I’m feeling quite lost about what to do next.

Thanks.

Not sure about the changes but have been using OS more often now.
During startup, the screen stays black for 2-4 minutes, then the BIOS shows the MSCI logo for another 2-4 minutes before allowing access.
It’s very slow. I plan to remove and reinsert the CMOS battery or order a new one to see if it improves things temporarily.

Once windows loads, it executes a 'crystal disk info' check and captures the output as a screenshot.

I was considering driving as an option too. It hasn't been something I've tried before, let me know if you need anything different from it. Thanks

Everyone here:

See the screenshot here. The OS is visible, other disks are for games and backups.

Nothing seems problematic by unplugging just the disk other than the operating system, so it might make a difference.

Please note that this has originated from a hard drive failure, likely due to the HDD. I can now hear an audible noise coming from the HDD that doesn’t seem normal. After resolving the OS-related issues, removing everything except the OS helped pinpoint the problem as the HDD. Thank you
