Heyho
I'm facing an issue where none of my current games fully utilize my hardware, but the FPS remains low. I've considered upgrading the PC, though I think it might not be worth it if you're not pushing to the limits, right?
My setup looks like this:
Windows 10
8GB Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Windforce 3X OC
16GB (2x 8192MB) G.Skill Aegis DDR4-3000 DIMM
AMD Ryzen 7 1700 8x 3.00GHz So.AM4 BOX
ASRock AB350 Pro4 AMD B350 So.AM4 Dual Channel
I play Rocket League, COD Warzone and Assassins Creed Origins.
I tested the performance in various scenarios and got an average result. (Sorry for the German words there 😊)
In short, the load is almost never high in any game. In Warzone, RAM usage is moderate, but GPU and CPU lag behind. With Assassins Creed, I didn’t really strain any components and still struggled to get a solid FPS. Then I thought about changing the CPU, RAM or memory capacity—I wasn't sure it would help much, was it?
Anyone have suggestions on how to improve my FPS?
Thanks a lot!

Inspect the NVIDIA control panel; there is clearly a FPS limit you can adjust, both worldwide and for each game. Vsync might also be affecting performance by capping at 60 FPS. The only other possibility I can think of is that the power supply unit isn't delivering sufficient power to the GPU.

Keep in mind, examining CPU usage graphs can be misleading; it's difficult to fully utilize all cores on a CPU, particularly as the core count rises. Therefore, even a 60% usage rate might be normal for certain games. Still, GPU activity appears minimal, suggesting it's likely being restricted in some way.

Your GPU isn't operating at its optimal level, ideally it should be functioning between 90-100 percent. Your CPU appears to be struggling as well. Have you verified that your BIOS and GPU drivers are current? What memory speed is it utilizing? Would you like me to display the results of gpuz?

Hey Fix! Thanks for your reply.
My bios look up to be the most recent version listed on that page: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AB350 Pro4/#BIOS. I just restarted my PC and went into BIOS again, and everything seems okay.
My GPU drivers are also the newest ones. I reinstalled Windows a few weeks back and did a fresh driver setup, plus updated them in the following weeks, so everything should be up to date.
Would you like me to display the GPU-Z stats while I’m playing a game?
If not, here’s what GPU-Z shows:

Are there any limits on frame rate, voltage, or temperature? The GPU temperature seems too low for a 1080 gaming setup—most would expect around 70-80°C.

Unfortunately I have no idea. I went to the BIOS, found nothing there, I put all my energy-options in windows and NVidia Control panel to maximum performance, but the GPU still doesn’t go beyond 55 % usage in AC Origins for example, while the CPU also stays low. It’s interesting that when I enter the AC Origins menu, the GPU Usage goes up to 80 % and the framerate also up to 105 (testing on my 144 hz monitor). Do you have any idea where I could set a frame rate cap, voltage cap or temperature limit? Of course I triple checked that there is no FPS cap in the game options. And this problem occurs in multiple games, so that shouldn’t be the issue.

Thank you for your reply. I reviewed everything carefully—there was no global FPS cap set in NVidia preferences, and none in the games either. All settings use the default global options. The "max refresh rate" preference is off, and the power mode is set to prioritize maximum performance.
My PSU is a beQuiet 750W, which I really doubt it’s sufficient for my setup.
😀
I hope the possible causes of my issue will resolve soon, right? ^^
