Are you using a laptop? It seems the CPU/GPU is turning on at a loud level unless it's under real stress. The 3080/3090 should handle 4K in most games.

I own a PC with an i7 12700K and a 3080 ROG Strix, 32GB RAM. When I play Siege at any setting—whether low or high graphics—I notice the fans spin loudly and it feels like constant noise. It’s strange since with a 1080p monitor at high settings I got smooth 300 FPS. Do you think this is typical behavior?

When the temperature rises to around 80°C and you're maximizing airflow (do you have any fan controls on the intake, can you increase speed?), the best options are to lower GPU demands or restrict clock speed/TDP. One tip is whether you've used MSI Afterburners OC Curve Optimiser—it usually cuts power use for NVIDIA cards without sacrificing performance, though stability isn't guaranteed and warnings about instability are normal.

If you already have a custom loop, I would include another radiator at the front, attach the GPU, and then add it.

I've struggled to pick up fan noise from my GTX 1080, RTX 3070Ti or RTX3090 unless the game was actively waiting or I pushed a GPU compute task. Even then, the sound varied from a faint hum to noticeable air movement. To put it simply, my ASUS ROG laptop always sounded like it was grinding on gravel whenever the fans kicked in. Laptops just aren't ideal for gaming. It was so excessively loud that when I finally stopped using it, I noticed the biggest disturbance came from my mechanical keyboard switches. Absolutely, it would be a mistake to assemble a system without proper cooling if you're adding a discrete GPU. Air-cooled GPUs generally need a mid-tower case at the very least. The mid-tower case I use with my 11th gen+3070Ti never makes a sound, and the same goes for the 14th gen+ 3090. I did choose quieter components like the Dark Base Pro 901 and a BeQuiet CPU cooler, but I worry it might get louder as the weather warms up. The last time I ran a long compute session, it was during summer and didn’t wake me up. Maybe the other person’s build is the issue. Both GPUs I have are RTX 30-series ASUS TUF models with performance fans set high, according to my last check.

It became very noisy only after I got my 1440p monitor. Games such as Siege really get my fans excited, but someone said the RTX 3080 tends to be loud too. So I won’t worry about it anymore.
